Countdown to the Oscars

Sunday is the big day! I'm very excited, especially as Billy Crystal is back as host this year. He's the best man for the job. Can't wait to see what gags he brings out for this one.

Here are my predictions for who will win in the major categories:

Lead Actor - Jean Dujardin. He deserves it. I loved this movie and Jean was fabulous in it. Besides, The Artist is the hit this year so he almost has to win. George surprised me in The Descendants - I thought he was great. But Jean was better. (As a side note: who should have been nominated was Michael Fassbender for Shame. And if he'd gotten a nod, he should have won. Oh well.)

Lead Actress - Meryl Streep. Who could possibly beat the Queen of the Oscars?!

Supporting Actor - Christopher Plummer. He was good, but I don't know if he's really any better than the rest. But he'll win nonetheless.

Supporting Actress - Octavia Spencer. I'd actually like to see Bérénice Bejo win this as she definitely deserves it, and she didn't win the Golden Globe or the SAG.

Best Director - Michel Hazanavicius. A given, hopefully. Unless they decide to reward Martin or Woody just because of who they are.

Adapted Screenplay - The Descendants. Great script. Great film.

Original Screenplay - Midnight in Paris. If they don't give Woody Best Director then they'll give him this. I'd prefer to see Annie Mumolo & Kristen Wiig or Michel Hazanavicius win (especially if he was left empty handed after Best Director.)

Best Picture - The Artist. I've actually only seen 5 of the films in this category, but it doesn't matter. I still think The Artist will, and should, win.

Happy Oscars everyone!
