Top 3 Tuesday - Joseph Gordon-Levitt

I've loved Joseph Gordon-Levitt ever since 10 Things I Hate About You. He's one of those super talented people - he acts, writes, directs, produces, sings, dances and plays the guitar and piano. On top of all that he's extremely funny and he seems to be a very nice, down-to-earth guy. Not only is he having a magnificent run in successful films of late, he's also the owner of hitRECord, a collaborative production company for artists of all kinds. That's right, JG-L is definitely one very inspiring man! :-)  I love to watch him onscreen and I think his acting just gets better and better. So for this week's Top 3 Tuesday I take a look at my three favourite JG-L films.

3. (500) Days of Summer - no wonder he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role as Tom Hansen in this brilliant independent film. Joseph gives a very real, very intense performance of a broken hearted man, grieving a relationship that was never going to be everything he wanted, or needed, it to be. What's so great about this film is its portrayal of something we've all been through - that devastating break-up that literally ruins us (temporarily). Joseph is honest and touching and he handles the agony with great sensitivity.

2. Inception - in one of the best films ever made Joseph is cool, intelligent and super tough in his role as Arthur. He takes his place beside Leonardo's Dom as they invade dreams and plant ideas into a person's subconscious. It's a film that messes with your head as you watch it, and that's why I love it so much. Joseph's best scene by far is the fight in the rotating hallway. If you've seen the film you'll know exactly what I'm talking about it. Not only is it a brilliant shot, it is also a perfect Arthur moment - Joseph shows how cool, calm and collected his character is under pressure.

1. Looper - this movie is out now so I don't want to say too much about it and spoil it for those who have yet to see it. What I can say is that Joseph gives, in my opinion, his absolute best perfomance to date. While the prosthetics he wears on his face make him look different, he somehow manages to create a different voice for the character as well. More than once during the film I had to remind myself that it was JG-L I was watching. He literally loses himself entirely in the character. It's a superb piece of acting in an unique, thought-provoking action film. Joseph shines as the steady handed 'looper' assassin Joe whose world is about to crumble around him. Go and see it! Now! :-)
