Top 3 Tuesday - movie songs

Lately I've had Adele's 'Skyfall' stuck in my head. I just can't seem to get it out. It's a great song, and obviously a very catchy one! :-) So this got me thinking about some other movie songs that I love and I decided to write this week's Top 3 Tuesday about songs written specifically for a film.

Here are my three favourites -

3) 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor - firstly I must admit something: I have never watched any of the Rocky films (shock horror!). I wasn't even alive when the first two came out and I suppose after that I was too young and just didn't care. :-) 'Eye of the Tiger' was written at Sylvester Stallone's request for Rocky III. And while I might not have seen that movie, this is a song I am all too familiar with. It's one of those songs that brings memories of my childhood flooding back to me whenever I hear it. I loved it as a kid. I still do! It's quintessential 80s and for me it's definitely one of the best songs written for film.

2) 'Streets of Philadelphia' by Bruce Springsteen - Philadelphia is up there among my all-time favourite films. It is a stunning film made all the more powerful by this heartbreaking song. It's such a sad song, for a sad movie, and that's why I like it so much. Bruce conveyed the tone of the film so perfectly in his lyrics. I can't listen to this track without feeling the same overwhelming heartache I felt while watching the film for the first time. It's a beautiful song.

1) 'Listen' by Beyoncé - I really enjoyed Dreamgirls and I thought Beyoncé gave a wonderful performance. I especially felt her character's sadness and anguish when she sang this powerful song. Every time I hear it I have to stop everything I'm doing and just let her voice wash over me. Beyoncé's talent is extraordinary and the lyrics to this song are so touching and full of pain and hope all at once. This song is for all those people who have ever felt that they didn't have a voice or weren't being heard. It's a phenomenal song.
